Krispies Kids,

Alison Owens

At Krispies we really want kids to enjoy their fish and chips as much as the rest of the family and we know that sometimes fish gets overlooked by kids.

At the Krispies Kids School Workshops we encourage the Kids to touch the fish.

At the Krispies Kids School Workshops we encourage the Kids to touch the fish.

Over the years,  we have done lots of things to encourage children to have fish when they come to Krispies, from workshops in schools where we take different species of fish along for the kids to look at and touch to having school groups look around the shop and understand the behind the scenes process. To add to these activities last year we overhauled our Kids Menu, redesigned our packaging and introduced our very popular Krispies Collectors Cards.

Each of our Collectors Cards (which come FREE with a Kids Meal) features a Fishy Friend. Unique to Krispies these fishies have personalities all of their own. Each card gives you a little bit of information about each fish but there is more info and stories about each fish on our website. These cards have been so successful that we are really excited to be introducing four new Fishy Friends Cards for the kids to collect and, just like their pals, there are stories of each friend and a FREE colouring template which you can download from our website.

Of course we know that eating fish is good for you as part of a healthy and balanced diet but also at the top of our agenda is eating the right type of Fish and by that we mean fish that are from sustainable sources. Krispies is extremely proud to be MSC (Marine steward council) certified and if you want to know what that means you can find out by clicking here.

If you choose fish that has the little blue tick next to it (either in a restaurant or a supermarket) you are eating fish that come from sustainable sourcing meaning that there will be plenty more fish in the sea for your kids and their kids and so on – way into the future.

Some of the kids love those fish!

For the first time this summer, we have run a Kids Colouring Competition – we have challenged kids to come up with a new Fishy Friend and the winning fish will appear on our Menu for a whole year! As I write we’ve had quite a few entries and every single one of them is totally unique, they really make me smile – it’s going to be tough to choose the winners!!

We will be announcing the winner of the competition on 8th September on the same day as we launch our four new Collectors Cards and to celebrate all this we have having a special Fish & Fun Friday when all our Kids Meals will be half price (£1.50) from 4.00pm to 8.00pm and of course all the Meals will have a FREE new collectors card included.

We want to continue to give the kids who come to our shop a little bit extra so they know that eating fish is delicious and healthy and gives your brain an Omega 3 boost!
