Five minutes with Mrs Krispie

What is your role at Krispies?
I am a director but my main role is primarily HR including staff training and development. We have over 80 staff and, along side our food, our staff are our most important asset. I also buy all the fish to ensure best quality and price for the customer.

What is the favourite thing about your job?
I enjoy being on the shop floor and serving customers, having a chat with customers old and new. I think it’s important for them to see that we are still very much involved in Krispies. In the longer term I love to see my team develop and become stronger, more professional people.

What is your best memory?
My best memory was seeing the sign with Krispies on to be erected on the shop front after our first major store refit. Feeling like you’ve created a brand after years of having a vision in your head is a very special feeling!

What is your greatest business achievement?
Getting the keys for the second shop and realising we created a ‘turn key operation’ and were able to create our product to the same exacting level in another store.

What’s your go to choice on the Krispies menu?
Jumbo plain sausage, regular traditional chips with just salt, mushy peas and a pot of onion vinegar.

What is your greatest achievement outside the business?
Apart from raising two wonderful kids; maintaining a level of fitness over the last three years which I’ve never been able to manage before, which has enabled me to complete my first sprint triathalon and learn how to swim properly as an adult at the age of 43! It’s never too late!

What would you have done for a career if you weren’t in Fish & Chips?
I went to college to start studying Leisure and Tourism. I had grand ideas of going to be a 18-30’s holiday rep! Getting paid to get drunk very much appealed to me at 17! Now, as I have more sensible head, I’d probably like to go into working a as counsellor and I’m currently studying a Higher ED Cert in Psychology.

Who is your role model in business/life or both?
I’d say in life it has to be my business partner and husband Tim it’s rare to find someone who keeps you grounded and focused and is also your best friend.
